Addition Projects We Document

Whether you're planning a kitchen addition, family room expansion, primary suite, or in-law suite, your project requires permit documentation before construction can begin. NJ Permit Plans prepares what's needed and guides you through municipal review — so you can move from plans to permits to building.

Rear Additions

Single-story expansions for kitchens, family rooms, mudrooms, home offices, and primary suites. We document the project, coordinate permit requirements, and prepare the submission package needed for municipal review.

Garage Additions

Attached and detached garage additions, expansions, and conversions. We document setback compliance, fire separation requirements, and all permit documentation needed for approval.

Primary Bedroom Suites

First-floor or second-floor primary suite additions — bedroom, bathroom, closets, and supporting living space. We prepare the permit documentation to move your project from concept to construction.

Family Room Expansions

Ground-floor expansions that add living space — often combined with kitchen reconfigurations or open-plan conversions. We prepare the full permit package for municipal review.

Covered Porches & Sunrooms

Covered additions that extend outdoor or semi-enclosed living space. We review permit requirements for your specific project type and prepare the documentation needed for approval.

Second-Story Additions

Building up instead of out? Add-a-level projects have their own structural and code considerations. See Add-A-Level permit plans.

What to Expect

1

Initial Project Review

We review your project — scope, site, zoning considerations, and any constraints that could affect the permit process. Every project is reviewed by a Licensed New Jersey Architect before a proposal is provided.

2

Fixed-Fee Proposal

You receive a defined scope, timeline, and fee before work begins. Permit application and municipal coordination services are quoted separately if you want them.

3

Permit Documents

We prepare the architectural drawings and code documentation required for your municipality — signed and sealed where required.

4

Submission & Review

You submit, or we prepare and submit the application for you. If reviewers comment, we revise the documents so the project keeps moving.

What You Need to Know

Do I need a survey for a home addition permit?

Most municipalities require a site plan showing the addition and its setbacks, and a current survey is the usual starting point. If yours is older, tell us on the review form and we'll advise what your municipality expects.

Can you help with the layout, or only the permit drawings?

Both. If you already have a defined layout, we document it for permit. If you need help developing the layout, select a design assistance level on the review form and we'll scope it before work begins.

How long does it take?

Most projects are ready for municipal submission within approximately one week of receiving the required information. Municipal review timelines vary by jurisdiction.
